Karen Benson with a quilt she made by hand. The Canyon View Room at The Club at Town Center was bustling today with Wild Whimsical Women (WWW) sorting and wrapping Christmas presents for local families of veterans. The gift drive, coordinated through Veterans Outreach on Capital Drive, benefits two needy families of veterans who somehow did not make it on any of the holiday charity lists to receive gifts. The items, which range from new toys and clothes to a quilt handmade by Somersett resident Karen Benson, were donated by Somersett residents.

The WWW is an informal group which meets every couple of weeks for a happy hour and to plan charity projects. According to Sharon Slattery, the group’s informal leader, the WWW was formed 7 years ago with three members and has grown to 114 members, “99 percent of them from Somersett and Del Webb,’’ she says.

And one of the WWW’s charity projects is located right here at the Club – a barrel near the front entrance sits waiting for donations of used clothing, which the group distributes to area charities.
