We asked participants at Sunday’s MC Believe 5K and Fun Run why they ran (or walked or volunteered). Here’s what they said.

“To support the cause. I like to exercise but the cause is the most important thing.”

-Steve Hatcher

“I was (an MC Believe) scholarship winner last year and the scholarship has helped me financially in my first semester at UNR. I am really grateful for the support.’’

-Shane Helton, education major

“Our son goes to McQueen and their daughter was there. This event is all about supporting education.”

Lisa, Pete, Linda and Joe (they walked the course together)

“We thought it would benefit the community, so we’re here.”

– Participants in student government at Billinghurst Middle School. The students arrived at the crack of dawn in costume to cheer on the racers and direct traffic

“We love to run. This event is in our neighborhood so we came out to support the cause.”

-Dominic Henriques (who was the first runner to finish the 5K), Amanda Henriques (who was the first woman to finish the 5K), Marilyn (who ran in the 5K), Mike, Robin, Julian (who ran in the Kids Fun Run) and Penelope

Note: Dominic won first place in the one mile and third place in the 10K in the Reno Running Fest earlier this month. Amanda was the top finisher in her division in the Journal Jog 8K stroller. Congratulations!
